4 Powers

Understanding exponents

Exponents means multiply by itself, that many times. For example:

  • a^1=a
  • a^2=a*a
  • a^3=a*a*a
  • a^4=a*a*a*a
  • a^5=a*a*a*a*a
  • etc…
a^2

a is the base.

2 (square) is the exponent or index.

and a^2 put together are called a power.

2a^2=2*a*a

(2a)^2=2a*2a

b+b+b=3b

b*b*b=b^3

6n*8n*n=48n^3
